On behalf of the Steering Committee, I am welcoming you to the MSc Program "Hematology-Oncology of Childhood and Adolescence", which is organized by the Medical School of the University of Crete and is based in Heraklion, Crete. The Program was launched in 2019 and is currently the only Postgraduate Program in Greece that offers an academic degree in this field. It is addressed to health professionals (medical doctors, nurses, biologists, and technicians) and to graduates of related fields of health sciences. The teaching staff of the Program are distinguished scientists with long experience in research, education, and the holistic treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults with hematological and neoplastic diseases.

The purpose of this MSc is the promotion of knowledge and acquisition of skills in early diagnosis, therapeutic treatment, and holistic approach to hematological diseases and cancer in children, adolescents, and young adults with the provision of a high level of postgraduate education. The thematic modules of the program cover the theory and practice in: (a) early clinical and laboratory diagnosis, (b) basic and clinical-laboratory research in the field, (c) multifactorial treatment of diseases with modern chemotherapeutic protocols and targeted treatment, (d) prevention, prenatal diagnosis and family counseling, (e) follow-up of the long-term complications up to adulthood, timely issues of fertility and cardiovascular complications as well as psychosocial well-being and social integration. The program duration is three semesters, and upon its completion, the Master offers 90 credits according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The University of Crete supports the mobility of students, graduates, and teaching staff through Erasmus programs. The students' diploma theses are deposited in E-Locus, the Institutional Repository of the University of Crete Library.

We strongly believe that the analytical and empirical skills we offer are extremely useful in the constantly evolving and highly dynamic environment of Pediatric Hematology & Oncology.
